Real Estate Video: The Road To Get There

real estate video bloopersWhen I talk to real estate agents about using video in their real estate business many of them freeze up “video, me! Nooooo”. Some give me excuses – “I will” or “I want to lose 10 lbs first” or for the ladies “Stephen…look at my hair!”.

I get it, I went through it too which is how I can easily recognize it – they are still caught up in the whole “what will other people think” stage; they simply don’t know how to get out of their own way.

I teach real estate marketing classes all over the valley. At brokerages and lenders, SEVRAR, WEMAR, SAAR and every other acronym I can probably think of. In my real estate video classes we discuss camera equipment, audio, editing software, video topics, video syndication and one of the most important topics – mindset.

People are motivated by 2 things. 1) Looking Good and 2) NOT Looking Bad. So you can see an issue could arise when it comes to video. If there is are any objectives for a real estate agent that starts using video in their business it’s these two. In reality the most important part of using video for real estate is not these, it’s providing value. This is what the consumer is actually looking for. (They really could care less what you look like)

I’ve created hundreds of real estate videos. HD property tours, subdivision video, green screen, How To’s,  screencast, animation, talking head, interviews and so on. When you click that play button what you are seeing is the end. The final product. What you don’t see is the road traveled to get there. The mistakes, the “um’s” and “ah’s” and the swaying from right to left, the frustration – you don’t see any of that.

Well with the permission of two great ladies – Michelle Shelton of Realty One Group and Amy Jones of the Amy Jones Group at RE/MAX Infinity I have prepared a few videos for you to view. One of them (Michelle) is a green screen video. The other (Amy) is a property video. I’m showing you these because I want you to get this – mistakes will happen, you are not alone, we ALL go through them. As I said, I have made hundreds of videos and made thousands of mistakes. I just kept on going. And so should you. So without any further ado, Michelle and Amy.

Both of these ladies KILLED IT, their finished videos are great but as you can see it took some time to get there. One thing you can clearly hear is me, giving some direction. I always ask my clients “are you open for some feedback and suggestions?”. Using video in your business can be stressful and confusing, feelings that are normal, find someone to help you. Someone that will tell you how you REALLY sound and what your body language is REALLY saying. It doesn’t matter how “happy and excited” you are to help someone buy or sell their next home if your face is saying something different.

Its teamwork Amy. You did a great job and now, in addition to a great marketing piece you can use to drive traffic back to your site, you also have something unique that demonstrates how you will market your clients home. Your seller will share that video with her friends and family through Facebook and other social networks and it will be helping you build brand awareness for you and your team. Can’t wait to shoot the next one!
