HOW TO Monitor Your Brand And Create Better Content With Google Alerts

Google Alerts

Create Better Content

In a world where most people in the real estate industry {real estate agents, title reps, loan officers etc} are MARKETERS, I am a STORY TELLER. I tell stories rather than market or SELL, in part, because people HATE TO BE SOLD TO. Rather than chase a real estate agent around to tell them how “great” I am, I help them discover it through my stories. One of the ways I create better stories is with something called Google Alerts.

I’m from Upstate New York but I went to college at UNLV in Las Vegas. For spending $$$ I was a server at the Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino – BEFORE it was purchased by Harrah’s, when it was consistently ranked as the #1 hotel in Vegas. The Rio prided itself on service. I remember my manager, “Ike”, telling me – “people don’t often tell others about a great experience but they will often go out of their way to tell EVERYONE they can about a bad experience”. At the time, I think the average number of people told about a bad experience was 7. That was in 1996. Today, because of the Internet it is imperative to know what is being said about you, your family, business and/or brand online. Remember the number of “7” – the average number of people told about a bad experience? Today that number could easily be 700, 7000, 7,000,000 because of social media platforms like facebook, Twitter, YouTube and blogs.

I use Google Alerts to monitor my brand “MyTitleGuy”, my name, my children’s names, wife, parents etc. I also use it to monitor my COMPETITORS. I know when a consumer has a bad experience with any one of them, company or individual. I also use Google Alerts to create better content – better stories. Google Alerts is a free and simple method of monitoring what others say about you or what’s important to you – online. Once Google Alerts is configured, Google will send you an email as soon as it finds content on the web with your name or other keywords or phrases in it. Below I show you HOW TO Set Up Google Alerts.

There are other monitoring services I use besides Google Alerts that are better suited for social media websites like Facebook and Twitter. Google Alerts helps me not only monitor what others are saying about me and what’s important to me – it also helps me come up with better content. I don’t need to guess what is important to my ideal client – Google Alerts tells me. Google Alerts is just one way you can use technology to help grow your real estate business. There are many more. Today, Consumers HATE to be SOLD to. 80% no longer trust conventional advertising/marketing. You can help them find you online at the EXACT moment they are most interested in what you do IF you know how to create and optimize content. This is yet another area I can help.
