Remember the old days of real estate marketing? Ya know, the days when you didn’t have to know or even understand technology to grow your real estate business? I do. This is my 11th year in the title industry here in Phoenix. I remember the days of real estate agents calling me and asking for flyers, postcards, labels or even a monthly contribution to their yellow pages ad – yes, I have been around for that long. Real estate agents used these methods of marketing to be “top of mind”, they were hoping that after a year or two of marketing an area, neighborhood, sphere of influence or list that the consumer would remember them when that need was finally present.

It worked great too. That is until their was a shift. A shift in consumer behavior towards the Internet. Today, when I have a need I do not break out the yellow pages, I do not go to my mailbox, I do not go next door and ask a neighbor – NO – I go online. By online I mean, a search engine. I ask it a question and it typically has the answer I am looking for. You know who else goes online when they have a need {besides YOU}? Your ideal client. What are they looking for? Typically they are looking to gather information or solve a problem. This information is called content or real estate content for our purposes.

Real estate content is the new way to help your ideal client find you online, not in the future but at the exact moment in time the need is present. Today, 80% of consumers will choose the 1st real estate agent they “find” when they have a need, real estate content can help you be that agent. But like real estate agents, attorneys, title companies and pretty much everything else, they are all not created the same. Why you are a great real estate agent is not good real estate content. Your designations, awards and knowledge is not good real estate content. Why your team or brokerage is #1 is not good real estate content. Top Producer 2006, is not good real estate content, These are not good real estate content ideas because these are not things a consumer would naturally look for when attempting to gather information or solve a problem around the real estate space.
