A Great Way NOT To Grow Your Real Estate Business

INTERNET MARKETING FOR REAL ESTATEInternet marketing real estate is here to stay. If you are a real estate professional it is your new reality. There is no going back. There is a right way and a wrong way to get found online. Let’s talk about How Not To Grow Your Real Estate Business.

Imagine for a moment you are in the market for a new car. Since we are imagining, let’s say it’s a LEXUS GS300. Seems like everywhere you go you see it,  On your way to work. On your way home. At the grocery store. At the Gym. Everywhere. Your reticular activator is definitely working. You want one. But can you afford it? How much do they cost? What would the payment be? Are they safe? Does it come in silver with black interior? How many miles to the gallon does that bad boy get? Is there side curtain airbags?

I’m 37. I have had my share of new cars. I remember when you actually had to call an 800 number or walk into an auto dealership to get a glossy car brochure. Do you remember those days? Looking through the brochure was exciting. Everything I wanted to know was in it. Engine size, available colors, gas mileage, power seats, power windows, leather or fabric, what color? Those were the old days.

Today, if you were looking to gather information about that new LEXUS you would go online. You probably wouldn’t go directly to either, you would want to get right to the “meat and potatoes” which means a search engine like Google. “Lexus GS 300 cost, Lexus GS 300 interior, Lexus GS 300 customer reviews” might be some of your searches. You would be searching online to gather information about a product you are interested in.  Let me tell you what you would NOT do. You would not look for someone online to sell you a Lexus GS300. That would be silly right?  You would not search for “Lexus GS300 sales person” right? But this is exactly how many real estate agents are planning on growing their real estate business. This is actually how NOT to grow your real estate business.

In the same way that you would not search for a salesperson to sell you that LEXUS GS300, consumers don’t typically look for real estate agents to sell them homes. They look for homes for sale or information online first. “4 bedroom 2 bath homes for sale Peoria”, “Homes under $150,000 Glendale” “Short sale vs foreclosure”, “buying or selling process in Arizona”,  “what’s title insurance and do I need it?” “Affordable homes for sale in Chandler” etc. This is the shift in consumer behavior. You have probably already seen this “shift” in your real estate business. You may have received a call from a consumer asking is “1234 E Main Street is still available?” or met a prospective home buyer for coffee when they reached across the table with bookmarked pages on their iPhone or iPad or even printouts of  5 homes they wanted to see.

The future of your real estate business will revolve around getting “found” online through a search engine at the exact moment a consumer is interested in your product or services. Marketing real estate online, the right way will help consumers find you [and grow your business] by creating content around what consumers actually look for online.

Gearing all your internet marketing towards YOU and why a consumer should work with you, your awards and designations, certifications etc. is a great way NOT to get found online and therefore NOT to grow your real estate business.
