Do You Think Your Message Can Get Through This?

Remember the old adage “Give the man a fish or teach the man how to fish”?  Well, every real estate professional wants fish.  In this case, “fish” are leads.  I am a business development manager for a national title insurance company in Phoenix Arizona.  I teach real estate professionals-real estate agents and loan officers/lenders-how to fish.

In an environment where every real estate professional wants more business or “fish” to stay on topic, many of them are using real estate marketing techniques they themselves don’t respond favorably to.  You know, the direct mail, cold calls, door to door, floor time, solicitations.  By definition, this type of marketing is a solicitation because almost all of the time, the consumer didn’t ask for it and therefor see’s less value in it-if at all.  I know from my own consumer based experience that I go to the Internet whenever I have a need.  Long before I ask for a referral, I do my own research.  What about you?

It’s no secret that over 90% of consumers go to the Internet first when looking for real estate-“homes” to be specific.  This is where the fish are.  I watched a discovery channel special about a year ago about flying carp.  Yes, flying carp.  A fishing pole and bait doesn’t work to catch these type of fish, because they jump right into the fisherman’s boat.  An amazing and easy way to fish huh?  It seems, the vibration of the boat’s motor causes the carp to literally jump out of the water 3,4,5,6 feet in the air, right into the fisherman’s boats!  This is the way I want to fish!  Would you like fish- “buyers” to jump right into your boat-your pipeline?  Of course you would-who wouldn’t!

Today, unique content-dynamic content-is the bait buyers and sellers want.  Its what they consume, and a lot of it.  Want more leads?  Learn how to attract buyers and sellers.  How do you do that?  Great question.  I am from upstate New York.  Not to far from Syracuse, where I grew up- in Pulaski New York-there is a place where Salmon fisherman from around the country come to fish, called the Salmon River.  Many fisherman, the smart ones anyway hire a guide to maximize their ability to catch fish, not just fish, but BIG fish.  It’s the guides responsibility to call the shots and make the decisions based on the circumstances.   On a fishing trip things change, and fast…..Nothing is “exact” on a fishing trip when weather and water control everything.  It’s the guides job to do what’s best for their customers-they give 100%.  The guides are on the water daily at least 6 days of the week.  It is their business to observe the conditions and make changes immediately to help their clients catch more fish.

Who is your guide?  Do you even have one?  You probably have a website, at least you should-but do you use it to the best of its ability?  Do you add bait-unique, dynamic, engaging content-to it on a regular basis?  Do you know what kind of fish you are trying to catch?  Short sale, Bank owned, traditional resale clients?  Great.
