Google Alerts: A Must Have For Real Estate Professionals

What are “They” saying about You? What are they saying about your Brand, Company, Employees or Competitors? Who is “They” anyway? They is your friends, your enemies, competitors, customers, potential customers etc. What are they saying about You? Is it Good or Bad? The Internet has changed our lives-for the better. BUT, it could be for the worse as well. I am a marketing representative for a national title insurance company in Phoenix Arizona, I help real estate professionals get “found” on the Internet where the consumer congregates. I met with a client yesterday that was not familiar with monitoring tools or how to use them in his business so I wondered how many other real estate professionals are not monitoring what is being said?

In the old days (8 years ago) if someone had a poor experience they would generally tell 7 people. That’s 7 people that were told about a negative experience someone had with a company, person, brand or service. Bad, but not really that bad when you realize that today, the Internet can easily turn those 7 people into 7 MILLION! It’s possible, hell, it’s already happened to some and it wasn’t pretty.

That is why it is important to MONITOR what people are saying about you, your company, Brand, Competitors, even CHILDREN! Technology has afforded us a way to know almost immediately when someone talks about us online. There are many tools available but today we will focus on Google Alerts. Google Alerts will Alert you every time any of the keywords you are monitoring are mentioned online. Knowing this information will allow you to get involved in a conversation taking place online about you. If it’s a conversation that reflects negatively on you, you can get involved and work towards fixing whatever problem has occurred. If it’s good, it will allow you to engage your audience and thank them.

There is also a very good business purpose for Google Alerts. You can set alerts for “buying signals” consumers talk about online when looking for real estate, a real estate agent or loan officer.

There are many other monitoring tools out there, some specifically for use with social media like Twitter and Facebook. We will discuss those later.
