That’s true and not so true in my case. I’m Stephen Garner, AKA “MyTitleGuy“. I started using video in my business in 2008, 5 years ago.
I saw the “shift” in my own behavior and knew video would be HUGE, a game changer. My daughter (5 at the time) was using video in her classroom, she was watching less TV and more of her favorite [educational] shows on YouTube. I was selecting video results in Google instead of “boring” text. I knew video would be huge, not just for my business but for ALL businesses.
It would have been great to have had some “help”. Someone to say “Stephen do this but don’t under any circumstances do this” or “get this camera and that microphone, and skip that tripod and get this one instead”. That would have been nice. Unfortunately for me, there was really no one in the real estate space using video effectively. Sure, there were others before me but their videos for the most part were either poor quality, poor message, goofy and unprofessional or even downright egotistical. (Imagine that)
I had to learn how to use video on my own. I made hundreds of mistakes, I wasted thousands of dollars, I had more migraines than I could count. It took some time, a lot of time actually, but I finally figured it out. I literally failed forward. Today, I have over 300 videos on my YouTube Channel, I’ve created over 2000 videos for myself and others, I even wrote my own HOW TO video course for real estate agents, title reps and loan officers – the Video For Real Estate Agents course. I’ve created all kinds of videos; HD real estate tours, green screen, screen cast, animation, whiteboards, keynote (mac version of Powerpoint), talking head, interview, all kinds of video. Videos that are still getting found online. Videos that are still sending traffic (my ideal client) to my website, my storefront, my HUB. I’m fortunate I started using video early, my competitors are playing catch-up. Take a look at some of the statistics below

My first video camera (which really wasn’t one at all) was the webcam on my 13″ macbook pro. From there (and follow me here) I moved up to the Flip Mino, then the Flip Mino HD, Kodak Zi8, Canon T3i, GoPro Hero, Canon 60D and now I shoot with big boy DSLR cameras like the Canon Mark II and Mark III, the same DSLR’s used by the local and national media, Dateline, 20/20, many of your favorite TV shows, commercials, even Hollywood films are shot in full or in part with the cameras I now use. Canon estimates 50% of all commercials shot in the US are shot on DSLR’s.
