Using Video In Real Estate? Tell The Story

Tell A Story

Remember when you were a little kid? Remember when your mom or dad would tuck you in “snug as a bug in a rug”? I do. What happened next? A bedtime story. I loved bedtime stories. Whether it was my mom reading or my dad – I didn’t care. The story is what I loved. Closing my eyes and imagining what it would be like to be that superhero, bear, little boy – whatever! Stories are awesome. We identify with stories. You know what else stories are great for? Marketing. Specifically real estate marketing.

“The best marketers tell stories”

Come here, I have a story for you…. I heard that all the time growing up in New York. Everybody had a story. In fact, I would see some kid making a fool of himself and say “what’s HIS story?”. Stories tell us how it is. Stories are entertaining. Your real estate marketing needs to be entertaining as well. Turn on the TV when you get home. For once, don’t forward through the commercials. Watch them – intentionally. You will notice a story. Savvy marketers have been using stories in their marketing for years. Let’s say it’s a commercial for a new laundry detergent….

The old way of marketing goes like this: Clean Away Laundry Detergent {that is what I am calling it} is great. It will make remove the toughest stains, mud, blood, dirt and grime are no problem for Clean Away. Clean away is safe and will not damage for clothes.

This is the old way.

The new way of marketing tells a story: Mom is in the kitchen washing dishes. The door swings open and its little Johnnie – he is FILTHY, mud all over him. His face is sad, {we wonder if he is sad because he is dirty or if because mom is going to be upset}. Mom smiles as if to say “no problem”. She walks little Johnnie to the laundry room where she needs to make a choice. Pick the “traditional” detergent she always uses or Clean Away. She glances at little Johnnie, assessing the situation and then she makes her choice – Clean Away. Next shot will be mom taking that same dirty, muddy shirt out of the washer and it will be clean. Not just clean but CLEAN. Little Johnnie will run to his mom, they will smile and hug and all is right in the world.

Mind you, none of this will be spoken. The commercial will tell us the story through video.

You can use these kind of stories in your real estate marketing. Real estate is exciting and interesting – consumers love to look for homes. They love to see photos and videos and descriptions of homes for sale. Your marketing can tell the consumer a story. The story will keep them engaged on you, your listings and your marketing. Don’t tell consumers you are the best agent ever – everyone does that – show them, with a story.

The best way to tell a story is with video. Given the choice between looking at 25 pictures of a home a buyer is interested in and a video of that same home, most consumers will choose the video. There are many benefits of video. Video says so much more about real estate than a picture or description ever could. If a picture says 1000 words, video says them all. I tell stories in everything I do. Whether I am writing on MyTitleGuy.com or making a video, I always start off with a story. Every one of my 400 blog posts starts or contains some kind of – story. I want my ideal client to identify with me and my message and stories do that. I want them to be engaged and stories do that.

Today 98% of consumers start their home search online and 80% will choose the 1st real estate agent they find. Traffic is one part of the equation and conversion is the other. The longer a consumer is on your website, searching for homes, watching your videos, reading your articles the easier it is to convert them. Below is a play list of YouTube videos I made for some of my clients listings. While many REALTORS® will walk around a home without the use of a tripod or microphone and narrate a listing {with an iPhone} I choose to tell a story. The story of a home in Mesa, Carefree, Scottsdale. The story allows consumers to mentally “move in” to a home. The play list below has 4 real estate videos in it. {9 minutes total}

Each real estate vido tells a different story. If you were a buyer, would you see value in this kind of video? Let me help you with that one – HELL YES! If you were a seller would you list your home with an agent that could showcase their home like that? HELL YES YOU WOULD. The videos I make are engaging and interesting and they tell a story.

73% of sellers said they would list with a REALTOR® that would market their home for sale with video, yet less than 2% of REALTORS® are using video in their real estate business. Add to that the ones that are doing it wrong and it’s more like .2%. I can show you how to grow your real estate business with tools like video, WordPress, Content, SEO, Indexable IDX and more. Leads go to the best marketers NOT necessarily the best REALTORS®. I help real estate agents get found online. I don’t need to tell you I am the best solution in Phoenix in the title company space, you found my website, you watched my video – you already know that. That’s my story….. fill out the form below to start working on yours.
