Real Estate Blog Content: But I Have Nothing To Write About

real estate blog contentWhat is good real estate blog content? If you ask me, I believe SEARCH is the future of marketing. You need something and you SEARCH for it online. What’s the name of that movie? You SEARCH for it online, Cough won’t go away – you SEARCH for a reason – online. This is especially true in the real estate space where over 94% of consumers start their home SEARCH online. Real estate marketing has changed, from spamming everyone to helping them find you online. You can help consumers find you online by learning how to create good real estate blog content. Here’s how.

What Is Real Estate Blog Content

Real estate blog content is the words, listings, maps, pictures, videos, podcasts, ebooks, that you fill your real estate website with. This content is what consumers SEARCH for online when they are attempting to gather information or solve a problem surrounding real estate. Your real estate blog content can help them find you IF you know how to create it. Not all real estate blog content is created the same. Some is good and from what I have seen, most is bad. Here is what I mean.

Good Real Estate Blog Content

Lets play a game. Let’s say you are living in New York, you are married and you have 2 children. One day you go to work and the boss calls you into his/her office. After the nervousness passes, [why does the boss what to see me?] you discover you have done such a great job that you have received a promotion. Isn’t that great! There is only one problem: the promotion – it’s in Phoenix, Arizona. So, you go home  that night and you sit down with your wife/husband and you say “honey, babe, [whatever term of endearment you use when you are actually getting along] “I received a promotion today, it’s a 15% pay increase, it’s more responsibility, it’s this and that and. . . it’s in Phoenix, Arizona.  You know nothing about Phoenix except “It’s a dry heat” so you do what? Yes – you go online. What would you search for?  What would you want to know about Phoenix? About the schools, the crime, the taxes, the public transportation, the things to do. Whatever you would search for is good real estate blog content

Bad Real Estate Blog Content

If good real estate blog content is information consumers would search for when they have a need, bad real estate content would be the opposite: real estate blog content consumers would not search for. Using the example above, what would you NOT look for online if you were possibly moving from New York to Phoenix? Let me help you with this one: A CDPE REALTOR®, A CRS REALTOR®, a REALTOR with an MBA, A service orientated REALTOR®, a real estate team that sells more homes than anyone else in their office, an REO REALTOR®, a Phoenix Suns Sports Schedule, a real estate agent with a 124 point marketing plan, etc.

One of the most common statements I get from REALTORS  when we start talking about creating real estate blog content is, “I don’t have anything to write about”.  If you want to create real estate blog content that can help you get found online by consumers when they actually have a need for your products or services you will need to think like one of them, like one of you. Yes – you too are a consumer! The next time you take a buyer out, the next time you do a listing presentation, listen to the questions you are asked “Is this a good time to buy a home in Phoenix” Homes near Chandler Regional Hospital” “Homes under $150,000 in Chandler” “What will it cost me to sell my home?” “Who pays the real estate commission” all of these questions are examples of good real estate blog content. There are literally thousands of things consumers look for online when looking for real estate, many of them are not even related to homes for sale. Here are more examples of good real estate blog content.

Real estate marketing has changed, the old days of talking about how awesome you are, “for all your real estate needs”  how great your real estate team is,  “The number 1 team at [x] brokerage, how much experience you have “25 years experience” etc,  might help you when marketing in real life but it probably won’t help you get found online. Why? Because consumers are not searching for this kind of information. Creating good real estate blog content, content consumers would search for when they have a need can help grow your business.
