You Did It, Hooray!

I’m tired. And sore. But I’m happy. I’m happy because I finally decided to take action. I am a former title rep for a national title insurance company in Phoenix Arizona, over the last 10 years I have helped real estate professionals grow their business – most recently online.


As I said, I am sore. Over the 10 years in the title biz I have entertained my share of real estate agents. Lunch with a real estate agent every day and dinner sometimes takes its tole after awhile. I gained 35lbs over the years. 35 pounds! So, now that I have left the title industry, I decided I no longer had an excuse. I decided to take action. I have a gym membership and I have had a personal trainer before but it never really worked. Probably because I had the exercise down but not the calories or I had the calories down but not the exercise. So I hit the wall and decided to do something. I started a workout program called Insanity and I am sore. 48 minutes of intense cardio and plyometrics with minimal water breaks in between. Up down, left right, push ups, squat thrusts, run in place over and over again. Did I mention I am sore? I am on day 4 of 60 and I feel great. I don’t feel great when I start it every day, in fact I sometimes try and talk myself out of it [was that the doorbell?] but I certainly feel great after – it’s over. My lungs feel like they are going to explode but dammit I did it! I know there will be a reward at the end – a healthier me. A better body. A better wardrobe? Wifee should be happy too.

Hitting the wall with exercise and little to no results is a lot like real estate marketing. Just like I couldn’t run a mile, then eat a pizza and expect to lose weight, you as a real estate agent can’t expect to pay X amount of dollars for a website and expect more business. It simply doesn’t work that way. Just like I need to work out more and cut my calories to lose weight, you need to get a website and fill it with unique, dynamic, engaging valuable content to get found online.

Just like putting in the work at the gym and cutting your calories will help you drop those unwanted pounds, starting with a website meant for real estate [WordPress]  and filling it with information consumers look for online will help you pick up some wanted clients. But make no mistake about it. . .YOU need to do the work. Because consumer behavior has “shifted” online, there is more competition than ever before. That is where the new battleground is. Not in their mailboxes or bus stops or shopping carts but on the Internet. IF you are the kind of agent that will rise to the occasion, realize that your future storefront is online, and you are going to work at creating content 3-5 times a week you will do fine. If you are the kind of agent that thinks you can skate by half assed, update your website whenever you want,  and still rank on the 1st page of Google for a competitive keyword [organically] you have been eating too much pizza.
