On Tuesday February 9th 2010 Google introduced Google Buzz. Another social network doesn’t necessarily excite me, there are plenty already, however…..over 60% of all searches take place on Google meaning Google Buzz will have immediate brand recognition. Google Buzz will work with your Gmail account and with 175 Million Gmail account holders, Buzz is off to an incredible start, potentially half of Facebooks estimated 350 Million users in 1 day!
Google buzz will incorporate different social media tools into one convenient location.
- Friends, updates and media (photos, videos) like Facebook
- Public status updates like Twitter,
- Location based updates like FourSquare. Google Buzz also adds two new things:
- Recommendations of what updates are most likely to be interesting to you,
- Easy access to the social network through a tool 175 million people use… Gmail.
- Get started right away, The early bird gets the worm. Unless you have been living under a rock, you already have a Gmail account. Now you may want to get one for your company as well. i.e. MyTitleGuyStephen@Gmail.com
So what should you do as a Real Estate Professional?
- Find people in your industry, and follow them. Find Realtor/Lenders in other parts of the country and follow their updates, watch their video’s, read their blogs; what are they doing that is working?
- Share, Share, Share. In an earlier blog post I was brutally honest “No One Cares What You Are Doing”, don’t feel bad….No One cares what I am doing either. What people (your customers) do care about is useful, relevant information. Information that will help them save money, take advantage of opportunities, learn about the housing market etc.. So Share!
- Encourage everyone in your sphere of influence to be active on Google Buzz. It will be easier for you to connect with your potential customers if you are on the same platform.
One thing that makes Google Buzz unique from Facebook, Twitter, Linked-in, MySpace is that it filters the content from the people you follow, meaning that only the best content rises to the top. Google Buzz will also recommended Buzz from people they are not following, based upon popularity. So, the more viral and popular your content is, the further and faster it will spread. These recommendations make Viral Marketing even more important.
